ROJO POR FUERA Y ROJO POR FUERA

Proyecto de encargo realizado para la celebración del día del Ictus el 7 noviembre de 2005. Proyecto producido por Off Limits con la colaboración de la Sociedad Española de Neurología, el Grupo de Estudio de Enfermedades Cerebro-Vasculares y el Grupo Bristol-Myers Squibb. Esta obra se realizó el 7 de noviembre de 2005, fecha de conmemoración del Día del Ictus en la madrileña Plaza Sánchez Bustillo.

Tarde noche del día 7 de noviembre de 2006. En el nivel superior de la plaza Sánchez Bustillo -en el rectángulo formado por el museo Reina Sofía, el Conservatorio superior de música, la torre de ventilación del parking subterráneo y un edificio de viviendas-, se sitúa la intervención Rojo por fuera y rojo por fuera.

Diez coches de color gris metalizado forman un embotellamiento. En sus reproductores de audio se pueden oír sonidos de claxon, ruidos de motores en marcha, acelerones, etc. Por las ventanillas abiertas de los vehículos pasa una multitud de gruesos tubos rojos. Estos tubos enlazan mediante bucles todos y cada uno de los coches. Dentro de los tubos se puede apreciar una secuenciación de luces en la que se persiguen unas a otras dando lugar al llamado “efecto rata”. En la torre de ventilación del parking se apoya una gran pantalla de proyección sobre la que se proyectan imágenes de vídeo en bucle continuo.

Las imágenes proyectadas son de diversos tipos y están intercaladas entre ellas mediante fundidos o cortes. Existen imágenes en 3D de una especie de red vascular de tubos rojos formados por cientos de fotografías obtenidas de la www y que ilustran la vida conflictiva de nuestros días. Estas imágenes en rojo se intercalan con otras en blanco y negro de la misma red sincronizándose con un sonido tipo beep intermitente como los que se oyen en las monitorizaciones hospitalarias. Por otro lado, existen imágenes en negativo de seres humanos que manipulan en torno a sus cabezas una maraña de cordones rojos a modo de circuito sanguíneo extracerebral. EstaS imágenes en negativo a su vez se intercalan con otras en las que toda la imagen se dibuja en rojo. En una especie de mezcla aleatoria, siempre al ritmo de un beep intermitente, se suceden las imágenes durante varios minutos hasta que un rojo absoluto en la pantalla y un beep continuo de unos segundos nos advierten del fin del vídeo. Poco después, el sonido beep se hace de nuevo intermitente y las imágenes alternantes vuelven a producirse.

Early evening of the 7th of November, 2006. In the upper level of the Sánchez Bustillo square -within the rectangle formed by the Reina Sofía museum, the music conservatorY, the ventilation tower of the subterranean car-park and an apartment building-, the installation Red outside and red outside is set. Ten metallic grey cars form a traffic jam. Their audio players give out the sounds of horns, running motors, accelerations, etc. Through the open windows of the vehicles cross a multitude of thick red tubes. These tubes link each and every one of the cars through loops. Inside the tubes one can see a sequence of lights chasing each other, originating the denominated “rat effect”. A great screen leans on the ventilation tower of the car park on which video images are projected in a never-ending loop. The images projected are of different types and are interspersed with fade outs or cutting. There are 3D images of a sort of vascular network of red tubes formed by hundreds of pictures taken from the www which illustrate the troubled life of our days. These images in red are interspersed with others of the same network in black and white, synchronizing with a beep type of sound such as the one we hear in hospital monitoring. On the other hand there are images in negative of human beings that manipulate around their heads a tangle of red cords like a blood circuit external to the brain. These images in negative in turn are interspersed with others in which the whole image is sketched in red. In a sort of random mixture, always following the rhythm of an intermittent beep, there follow a sequence of images, for several minutes, until a total red on the screen and a continuous beep lasting several seconds announce the end of the video. Shortly afterwards, the beep sound becomes intermittent again and the alternating images appear once again.
